Representative Abdul Rahman discusses referendum with United Nations press corps
New York City, New York, USA (us.gov.krd) – KRG Representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman visited New York on Friday, June 16 to brief the UN press corps.
In a press conference hosted by the United Nations Correspondents Association at the United Nations Headquarters, Representative Abdul Rahman delivered remarks, highlighting current humanitarian, military, and political developments and answered questions from international journalists covering UN affairs. She stressed that the war against ISIS remains a top priority and underscored that military cooperation with Baghdad against the terror group would be ongoing. This was the first press conference featuring a KRG official ever held at the UN.
She also outlined the reasons for Kurdistan’s referendum on independence, which is set to be held September 25, 2017. She said that referendum, which is binding, would be used to negotiate the future relationship with Baghdad and the rest of Iraq.
