US Commission on International Religious Freedom hosts meeting with KRG Representation
Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman met with the leadership of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) on August 7 to discuss their recent report on religious freedom in Kurdistan. The Commission’s Chairman Daniel Mark led the meeting, which was attended by four of the Commissioners, the Executive Director, and other directors and analysts.
Representative Abdul Rahman thanked USCIRF for their commitment to religious freedom and their work in Kurdistan, and gave feedback on the report’s findings. She reiterated the KRG’s commitment to religious freedom and tolerance, highlighting the KRG’s progress towards protecting the rights of all people in Kurdistan. She added that Kurdistan is a rare island of openness and co-existence in the Middle East. She also said that the KRG recognizes that society’s demands change and evolve, which is something to which the KRG is responsive.
Chairman Mark thanked Representative Abdul Rahman for her remarks and underscored the importance of continued dialogue between both sides.
