KRG delegation arrives in Washington to discuss economic crisis
Washington, DC, USA (us.gov.krd) – A senior Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani began a week-long visit to Washington on Monday to meet with US administration officials, lawmakers, experts and members of the media.
The purpose of the trip is to convey the dire financial crisis facing the Kurdistan Region and to request emergency financial assistance from the US and international financial institutions.
Deputy Prime Minister Talabani is joined by Minister of the Interior and Peshmerga Karim Sinjari, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations Minister Falah Mustafa Bakir and KRG Representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman.
On Monday, the delegation met with officials from the US State Department including Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Sarah Sewall, Assistant
Secretary of Bureau of Population, Refugees, Migration Anne Richard, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iraq Joseph Pennington, Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom David Saperstein, and Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South and Central Asia Knox Thames.
Minister Bakir delivered the keynote address to a group of energy experts, advisors, and investors at the Evercore ISI Energy Policy and Geopolitics Conference.
